Members of the Memphremagog Arts Collaborative in Newport held its first Annual Meeting at the Center on main Street. The group was treated to desserts and coffee provided by the members.
The years accomplishments were discussed for the young group which formally opened the MAC Center for the Arts on Nov. 17, 2007. Events were held at various venues prior to acquiring the space on Main Street. Special note was also made of the recent performances by Professor Fairbanks and QNEK Productions.
Future plans were also presented by Jim McKimm, President and include a Celebration of Arts on July 5th, held in conjunction with the annual Chowderfest sponsored by Vermont's North Country Chamber of Commerce, and the Goodrich Library celebrating their 110th anniversary.
The group will also sponsor the second Art on Main the last Sunday in September, following last year's successful event. Members will again show their works during the summer concert series on alternating Friday's at the Gateway Center in July and August. Additional performances are also being planned.
A special project of the group will be to produce a lure piece to be distributed widely which will contain ads from all of the arts groups and artists in the area. More information will follow on this.
The long term project will be to produce a hard cover book depicting the Northeast Kingdom as seen through the eyes of its artists. Details are still being worked out and will be announced sometime during the early summer. This would be a first for the artists in the Northeast Kingdom and would be sold statewide. Special events surrounding the book are also being planned.
